An interesting excursion from Davos

Monstein, the settlement in the Davos countryside, situated on a sunny terrace 1625 m above sea level, still has the unmistakable characteristics of a typical Walser village. Many houses are built of wood, some even still covered with the traditional larch shingles. The style of these immigrants from the Valais is reflected above all in the 15 or so Spiicher, the stables and the alpine buildings.

The village of Monstein is also characterised by varied vegetable gardens, five fountains and two churches. The older of these, the one in the centre of the village, no longer fulfils its original functions, but opens its doors for various occasions. The new church, which stands at the most beautiful vantage point, has served the community as a place of worship for 100 years.

With a brewery, a post office in the village shop, two restaurants, three carpentry workshops and five farms, Monstein is also attractive as a place to work and offers employment to almost half of all inhabitants who are in gainful employment. A number of leisure activities help to keep social exchange and contacts within the population alive.

From Davos Platz, an original nostalgic excursion to the Monstein Brewery is offered, under the motto "Last beer stop before heaven! A trip with the old-timer bus to the highest brewery in Europe. Start at the information office of the destination Davos. On the way you will learn all kinds of interesting facts about the town of Davos and the Davos landscape. Arriving in Monstein, a short foray through the Walser village follows with lots of interesting information about its history.

Afterwards the brewery is visited. There are exciting and funny things to hear about the beer production, taste the beer ingredients and of course the Monstein beers. A real experience not only for beer connoisseurs.
