Chill out in the western Bernese Oberland
Around Gstaad there are numerous winter hiking trails of varying lengths, the starting and finishing points of which can be easily reached by public transport and mountain railways. Pink and yellow signs show the way. Cosy restaurants invite you to rest along the way.

The less strenuous winter hiking trail from the Horneggli mountain station leads around the Horeflue, with a slight ascent to the Hornberg mountain station. For the 2.3 kilometre stretch via Gfell, the walk takes less than an hour.

The Horneggli chairlift takes you to the marked path. The mountain huts Horneggli, Hornberg and Hornfluh offer good cuisine and local specialities that you can enjoy in the pure sun when the weather is good. The Gfell also offers a fantastic view of the Gstaad ski mountains. The hike can be combined with the Hornberg or Horneggli toboggan runs.

Snowshoe hikers love the Sparenmoos Trail above Zweisimmen. The three-kilometre-long, signposted snowshoe trail impresses with its varied landscape and slight differences in altitude - and often with powder snow. The circular trail starts directly at the car park of the Berghaus Sparenmoos. Half way to the Site Alp, the view of the Simmental and the Niedersimmental foothills of the Alps opens up. After the alpine huts, the trail leads over the ridge up to the Tolmoos area. Past the snow-covered hut you reach the highest point. Parallel to the winter hiking trail, the trail leads back to the starting point.
